Hi, we want to do the Alcatraz tour. Is it best to do the day tour, the night tour or is what you see - make it worth doing both?
A:
We only did the day tour which was great, basically stay as long as you want and get the boat back when your ready as you are free to roam the jail and the island.

If you just go with the guy that recording you'll have plenty of time if you stop and read every document you'd run late.

My husband and grown kids did the Behind the Scenes when we were there in May. It was about $100-ish each, but they said it was well worth it. My daughter and I did the regular Cellhouse Tour and that was great, but the others saw so much more cool stuff and had their own NPS tour guide.

Yes, book online. Advance booking is always favorable. We went during an off-season time this past Jan 2023, which probably helped our situation, especially when i cancelled our tickets thinking we were going to reschedule our trip. Little did I know, that meant, I had to go back on line to reschedule our tickets. And even though they may say it takes 24+ hours to cancel the process, they were quick to cancel. What I found out was that I needed to check the dates several times online bc they were changing rapidly. Dates not available; then became available. So don't give up! And I was updating like days prior to leaving. Glad I was able to secure tickets on the same day prior to canceling. We just adjusted our trip by one day. In the end, it all worked out. Fab trip! So worth seeing. Enjoy! As always, stay safe!!!
