Republicans expect the "Secure the Border Act" to pass next week with only GOP votes, bypassing Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs by sending it to the 2024 ballot.

“HCR2060’s new language is SB1070 ‘show me your papers’ on steroids. It is unconstitutional, legally unnecessary, intensely divisive, xenophobic measure designed by Republicans as an election year dog whistle,” the Arizona Latino Legislative Caucus said in a statement.

Voters may get a chance to decide whether Arizona police officers should be able to arrest people they suspect of illegally crossing the state’s southern border and Arizona courts should be able to order their deportations.
