In a recent announcement, the esteemed artist colony MacDowell recognized Yoko Ono for her extraordinary contributions to the creative world by bestowing upon her the Edward MacDowell Medal, which celebrates lifetime achievement in the arts.

After decades of creating subversive art and music, Yoko Ono will receive a lifetime achievement award. MacDowell, an organization that offers artists residencies, will honor the artist with its Edward MacDowell Medal at an event in Peterborough, New Hampshire, this summer.

Since 1960, the honor has been awarded annually to individuals who have made an impact on art and culture. Ono, the first Asian woman to receive the honor, sits alongside an esteemed cohort of recipients, including filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin, cartoonist Art Spiegelman, and writer Toni Morrison.

Yoko Ono has been awarded the Edward MacDowell Medal for lifetime achievement for her art. Previous recipients include Stephen Sondheim and Toni Morrison.
