Description
This native grass is easy to grow and provides the perfect contrast for a wildflower planting. This short bluish-green variety grows in grassy clumps during the warm season of summer, and can even be used for a shaggy no-mow green space. According to legend, Native American children once made a game of looking for blue grama stems with an unusual three seed heads on them. The species name "gracilis" comes from the Latin word for "graceful." The genus name "Bouteloua" honors professor Claudio Boutelou, who taught agriculture at a university in 18th century Madrid.
