2020 Bodegas Lanzaga (Telmo Rodriguez) "Corriente Bueno de Diario" Rioja

Drink or hold." (07/2022) K&L Notes: The Corriente is Lanzagas everyday wine. It is sourced like all the wines made under the Lanzaga brand, from goblet trained, organically farmed bush vines from vineyards that surround the village of Lanciego. It is mostly Tempranillo, with a little Graciano and Garnacha and a smattering of white grapes too. The wine is fermented with native yeast in concrete then it is aged for one year in a mix of concrete, barrel and foudre. This is a common style of making wine around the turn of the 20th century. It is differentiated from the "LZ" in that this wine is aged in oak. This is fresh with an easy mix of dark berries and red fruits. It has moderate tannins, a touch of spice and has mineral floral lifted finish. Bigger than you would expect from an "everyday" red, but that is a good thing.
