Lustau Almacenista Oloroso "Pata De Gallina" (500Ml)

92 points Wine & Spirits: "Juan Garcia Jarana, the motorcycle magnate of Jerez, sells a portion of his soleras to Lustau for this delicate Oloroso. It starts with notes of candied almonds, coconut palm syrup and caramel. The hint of salinity lends complexity and freshness, without diminishing that delicate, pleasing sweetness." (06/2009) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Just add this oloroso to the growing list of excellent Sherries from Lustau. This one is tellingly nutty on the nose, thus the hazelnut and walnut flavors are expected as they become part of a bigger painting that includes coffee, bitter chocolate and baked fruits. Warming and charming, with subtle acidity. Very elegant and refined. (MS)" (06/2009) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Offers a raisiny hint, along with notes of date, anise, fennel seed, cardamom and singed clove. There's an ever so slightly sweet feel through the nicely wiry finish, tinged with orange bitters. (JM)" (10/2013) 91 points Wine Advocate: "The non-vintage Oloroso Pata de Gallina, Almacenista Garcia Jarana, also a dark amber, offers smoke, earth, and almonds. It would also make a fine match with game. (JM)" (02/2007) Jancis Robinson: "Light burnt umber colour. Walnuts and polished wood. Really nutty on the palate, so much so that it has a savoury, umami finish. Mouth-cleansing bitter-sour orange finish. 16.5/20 points. (JH)" (04/2016) K&L Notes: I have to confess to drinking a shameful amount of this wonderful wine. I can't seem to keep it in my cellar - I buy it and drink it! It is a bone dry, but very rich oloroso, with a walnut bouquet that will wow even the most jaded fine wine drinker. The name, Pata de Gallina, means "the foot of the hen" in Spanish and denotes a style of oloroso that has broadness and fullness without sweetness. This is not just great sherry, this is great wine.
